“Life begins from the center, from spirit, and radiates in ever increasing circles or cycles of life, growing ever more perfect”.--White Eagle

By recycling and transforming fallen plant materials into beautiful works of art, man invented Basket Weaving. Ancient cultures wove baskets for sacred ceremonies and to serve their everyday needs. A vast diversity of baskets exists worldwide due to the use of indigenous plants. The skills of basket making were almost lost in the last century but as people begin to re-connect with nature and awaken to its nurturing qualities, this woven art begins to flourish again. Weaving renews the soul through the intimacy that exists between the weaver and nature. Through fragrances of the materials, feeling the texture and watching the basket take form; the body, mind and spirit are all aroused.

Drawing inspiration from Mother Nature, Beth molds organic materials and other fibers to form works of art; vessels and sculpture, which she trusts will invoke some connection with the human heart to the world of nature. Using traditional basketry techniques such as coiling and twining, her work strives to reflect the visible and invisible beauty and serenity that moves through all life. The viewer senses this by the presence and placement of color in her pieces. The movement of color is representative of a stream of thought that connects one’s life to a higher source, the Creator. The materials, much like our thoughts, are fashioned into form creating unique vessels.

Frequently the materials used are either gathered by Beth or purchased from a supplier. Materials often include: pine needles, sea grass, willow and other flexible vines, kelp, philodendron leaf, palm, silk and waxed linen thread.

Having recently relocated to Washington from California where she spent twenty years in the Adult Education community teaching Folk Guitar and Basketry classes, she now looks forward to rekindling the creative spirit. Currently, as a Color Therapist, she teaches meditation and color prayer. All of which have provided very little income but nonetheless contribute to a peaceful spirit and a fun person to be with!
